See Farther. Perceive More. Nanoradar Introduces a New Generation of 4D Imaging Radar for Construction Equipment

2026-10-15

Abstract

Built for demanding construction equipment applications
Multiple vehicle power platforms require a wider input voltage range.
Long-term vibration and shock demand greater equipment reliability.
Small, weakly reflecting targets can be missed in complex environments.
Clutter from slopes and metal structures can trigger false alarms.
To address real operating conditions on construction vehicles, Nanoradar introduces the AFM761, its next-generation 4D imaging radar.

01 | See farther with 250 m long-range sensing
The AFM761 offers a detection range of 0.2–250 m. Its waveguide antenna technology significantly reduces signal loss and enables a more efficient MIMO array design. With a detection range increase of over 50%, it provides more time for warnings, deceleration and braking.

02 | See more clearly with high-resolution 4D sensing
1. Height sensing distinguishes targets at different elevations to reduce false alarms and missed detections
The radar measures elevation angles to obtain target height information. It can more accurately locate targets at different heights, including road surfaces, slopes, soil piles, traffic cones, buckets and elevated structures, reducing false alarms in complex terrain.

2. Point cloud imaging reveals target contours and details
By resolving target contours and details, the radar provides richer sensing information to support the identification and assessment of vehicles, people and obstacles.

3. 3° angular resolution separates adjacent targets
A super-resolution algorithm delivers 3° horizontal angular resolution. This improves the separation of targets at the same range but close together laterally, reducing ambiguity in complex environments with multiple targets.

03 | Designed for construction equipment integration and reliability
1. Wide input voltage simplifies integration
The AFM761 supports a wide input range of 9–32 VDC, covering common 12 V and 24 V construction vehicle power platforms. No additional voltage step-down or regulation module is required, reducing integration complexity.

2. Surge and load dump protection improves electrical reliability
The AFM761 meets the Class A requirements for electrical loads specified in GB/T 28046.2-2019. This improves its tolerance of demanding vehicle electrical environments and reduces the impact of abnormal voltages on operation.

3. Shock resistance and IP67 protection for demanding conditions
The AFM761 meets the mechanical load requirements of GB/T 28046.3-2011 at 10 g and provides IP67 protection. It is designed for prolonged, intensive operation on construction vehicles, helping maintain reliable continuous performance.

04 | Dynamic zones and four-dimensional filtering reduce false alarms
At least five alert zones can be configured. Height, speed, angle and range filters can be combined to select relevant targets. Areas of interest can be adjusted for reversing, turning and other operating conditions, reducing interference from out-of-zone targets and irrelevant echoes so that alerts better match operational needs.

05 | Vehicle state integration makes alerts more relevant
The radar supports vehicle speed, gear, steering and vehicle attitude inputs. It adjusts detection areas of interest and alert criteria for forward travel, reversing, turning and slope operation, reducing unnecessary alarms.

06 | Adaptable sensing for challenging environments
Millimeter-wave radar is unaffected by lighting or weather conditions and offers stronger all-weather sensing capability than vision. It can operate reliably in rain, fog, darkness and backlighting, where camera visibility is limited.

07 | Detect moving and stationary targets to better identify road hazards
The AFM761 can output 64 targets and simultaneously identify vehicles, pedestrians, non-motorized vehicles and road obstacles. Optimized detection of weakly reflecting stationary targets, such as traffic cones and cardboard boxes, improves hazard recognition in complex road environments.

08 | Applications
Designed for specialized vehicle platforms, including mining trucks, construction vehicles and autonomous haulage vehicles, the AFM761 supports mining transport, construction and port operations. It provides reliable sensing for forward collision avoidance, obstacle recognition and autonomous driving.

In key areas such as the mouth of the Cuojian River and Labi Village, two TCM873 millimeter-wave radars are deployed, each oriented toward potential debris‑flow source zones that pose a secondary risk of river blockage. By leveraging the radars’ real-time detection of target range, velocity, and other parameters, combined with visual recognition and analysis, these systems continuously monitor debris‑flow dynamics, providing data support for assessing secondary hazard risks.
