Abstract
Recently, LIANSHI Navigation Technology, a leading Chinese company in intelligent agricultural machinery, released a series of field-operation videos featuring its smart mowers working in multiple locations around the world.
Mounted at the front of the mower, NanoRadar’s millimeter-wave radar entered real operating environments with the machine, providing real-time environmental perception and obstacle-avoidance support for autonomous operation.

1. Autonomous Agricultural Machinery: Complex-Environment Perception Becomes a Key Challenge
When operating outdoors, smart agricultural machinery must handle obstacles such as trees and posts along the route while also responding promptly to people entering the work area. Strong light, alternating shadows, and uneven terrain further increase the complexity of environmental perception.
Timely obstacle detection, fewer unnecessary stops, and a balance between safety and operating efficiency are key challenges that autonomous equipment must address.

2. Multi-Sensor Comparison: Why Is Millimeter-Wave Radar an Essential Sensor for Agricultural Machinery?
Vision is easily affected by lighting, while LiDAR performance can degrade significantly in rain, fog, and dust; ultrasonic sensing is better suited to short-range detection. By contrast, millimeter-wave radar does not depend on ambient light and can stably obtain target distance, speed, and other information in rain, fog, dust, and darkness, making it better suited to long-term outdoor autonomous operation of agricultural machinery.

3. Millimeter-Wave-Radar-Based Obstacle Avoidance Solution for Agricultural Machinery
Millimeter-wave radar continuously detects people, vehicles, trees, and other obstacles ahead of the machine, outputting key information such as distance, speed, and angle. Integrated with the machine control system, it provides perception input for path planning, deceleration and avoidance, and emergency stopping.
4. NanoRadar Vehicle-Mounted Radar Product Portfolio

Guided by its “Focus on Integration” strategy, NanoRadar continues to expand its vehicle-mounted radar portfolio. Six radar models cover detection ranges from 20 to 170 m, with specifications including up to 1,200 points/frame, a minimum form factor of 40 × 40 mm, and multiple interfaces such as serial, CAN, and RS485, making customer integration easier.
