Abstract

See the Flow. Keep Traffic Moving.
Nanoradar TCM961 92GHz Traffic Flow Radar Gets a Major Upgrade

Road traffic management
is not just about detecting vehicles —
it is about understanding the flow.

Are speeds beginning to fall?
Is traffic nearing saturation?
Are queues continuing to grow?
See the flow. Keep traffic moving — Nanoradar TCM961 92GHz Traffic Flow Radar gets a comprehensive upgrade.

1. Comprehensive Performance Upgrade

More precise perception

The upgraded TCM961 extends its maximum detection range from 300 m to 350 m, expands the speed measurement range to ±300 km/h, and improves the vehicle capture rate by more than 30%, further reducing missed detections.
With longer reach, a broader speed envelope and more stable target capture, TCM961 provides continuous, reliable traffic data for urban arterials, expressways and large intersections.

2. Beyond Vehicle Detection

Understanding traffic flow
Accurate vehicle detection is only the starting point. Traffic operators also need a clear view of how an entire road section is performing.
TCM961 combines traffic volume, average speed and time headway to reveal the traffic rhythm, while queue length and space occupancy indicate congestion severity and its trend.
From individual vehicle data to corridor-level traffic conditions, road operations become clearer and easier to manage.

3. Intelligent Event Detection

Full situational awareness
Road conditions are shaped not only by traffic speed and volume, but also by abnormal events such as wrong-way driving and speeding.
The upgraded TCM961 adds traffic event detection, identifies abnormal behavior and outputs event information to the traffic management platform, supporting timely alerts and faster response.
From continuous traffic-flow analysis to event detection, radar delivers a more complete view of road operations.

4. Time Synchronization

Deep radar-camera fusion
PTP  Unified Time Base     |     Level 1  Clustered-Object Data     |     Level 2  Raw Point-Target Data

TCM961 supports PTP time synchronization, keeping the radar and camera on a unified time base.
It also provides two levels of radar data: Level 1 clustered-object data for fast, efficient fusion, and Level 2 raw point-target data for deeper, more precise fitting. This gives integrators greater flexibility when developing radar-camera fusion solutions.

5. Trajectory Heatmaps

Clearer lane optimization
By aggregating vehicle trajectories over time, TCM961 generates heatmaps that reveal peak-flow corridors, traffic distribution and congestion hotspots. The data can support road optimization measures such as reversible lanes and variable-direction lanes.

6. Software-Defined Radar

Flexible adaptation across scenarios
TCM961 offers dedicated modes for intersections, road segments and highways, allowing static and moving target detection strategies to be tuned to each environment. It also supports realistic configuration of lane channelization, landscaped medians and U-turn openings, helping radar settings align with real road geometry.

7. Web-Based Service

Simplified deployment and maintenance
No dedicated host software is required. A standard browser provides target display, parameter configuration, traffic statistics and time calibration, with access across platforms and operating systems.
A built-in gyroscope assists installation and angle optimization, balancing coverage and the near-field blind zone to simplify deployment, commissioning and maintenance.
