Building an "Invisible Great Wall" for Airports! See How Nanoradar Safeguards Airport Perimeter Security

Abstract

In the more peripheral, more concealed areas of the airport, there is an entire security system operating almost unnoticed by passengers: the radar-based airport perimeter security system.

Flights take off and land frequently, baggage moves swiftly... Airport operations appear orderly. But have you ever considered who provides the unseen security for an airport that operates 24/7 non-stop? The true support for orderly airport operations isn't just people. In the more peripheral, more concealed areas of the airport, there is an entire security system operating almost unnoticed by passengers: the radar-based airport perimeter security system.

Customer Pain Points
Airport perimeter security commonly faces issues like high false alarm rates (>80%), insufficient nighttime awareness, and high costs for long-distance deployment. Furthermore, passive alarm mechanisms often leave safety gaps of several minutes, making it difficult to meet airports' requirements for early warning.

Airport Perimeter Security Solution Based on Millimeter-Wave Radar
This solution comprises radars, video, and the RVSM radar-video fusion platform. Radars are responsible for all-weather, long-distance active detection; video is used for target verification and evidence gathering; and RVSM fuses the radar and video data to achieve alarm linkage, trajectory presentation, and unified management. It operates stably even in complex weather and at night, upgrading airport perimeter security from a passive alarm system to an active protection system that provides early perception and continuous tracking.

Scenario Test Verification: 2.8km Linear Perimeter Protection at an Airport in Jiangsu Province

Security Need: Protect a 2.8km fence near guard post #2 to prevent individuals from climbing the steel mesh.

Radar Solution: Utilized power distribution boxes as nodes to deploy 15 NSR200 perimeter radars, implementing a head-to-tail blind spot coverage scheme.

Test Results: The 15 radars achieved seamless coverage of the 2.8km perimeter. A test subject riding a bicycle to simulate intrusion was detected in real-time, with the radar tracking the trajectory and activating PTZ cameras for automatic zoom tracking, with no loss throughout the process.

Scenario Test Verification: Three-Dimensional Area Protection in Complex Scenarios at an Airport in Zhejiang Province

Security Need: The area near guard tower #1 involves three patrol roads and is adjacent to the apron, which is prone to electromagnetic interference. It is crucial to strictly distinguish between "intrusion targets" and "normal aircraft activity" to avoid false alarms.

Radar Solution: Four NSR300W area radars were deployed in a "Z" formation for relayed coverage to eliminate blind spots. Interference was mitigated by using the radars to precisely define "alarm zones."

Test Results: The four radars covered an area of 280,000 m². By defining alarm zones within RVSM, aircraft activity on the apron was perfectly filtered out, achieving precise monitoring that only reports intrusions, not aircraft.

The "Reconnaissance Experts" – Nanoradar Perimeter & Area Security Radars
NSR200 Perimeter Radar
The NSR200 is a 20° narrow-beam radar with a 200m detection range – the "sniper for long perimeters."

Ideal for: Long, straight physical perimeter fences surrounding airports.

NSR300W Area Radar
The NSR300W is a 90° wide-angle radar capable of covering up to 280,000 m² – the "guardian of open areas."

Ideal for: Aprons, runway ends, and irregularly shaped areas.

Nanoradar Security Radar Panorama
Nanoradar security radars offer detection ranges from 60m to 3000m. Featuring high protection ratings (IP-rated), they are waterproof, dustproof, filter nearby insects, and are shock and drop-resistant. They adapt to complex environments like rain, snow, fog, haze, sandstorms, and darkness, operating stably under extreme conditions to provide 7x24 all-weather, real-time protection for security zones.
