Radar Security System: Building Modernized Airport Perimeter Protection

2019-06-06

Abstract

In recent years, airports worldwide have faced increasing security threats, including intentional breaches such as climbing, cutting, or damaging perimeter fences, leading to unauthorized access to tarmacs or aircraft. These incidents expose critical vulnerabilities in airport perimeter security, highlighting the urgent need for more reliable and adaptable security solutions.

Airport security systems are typically divided into three zones: terminal security, airside security, and public service area security. The airside security heavily relies on the integrity of the tarmac and its surrounding perimeter. As the first line of defense, the airport perimeter must maintain strict isolation to ensure airside safety and order.

Current Technologies and Limitations
Traditional perimeter security methods include:

Vibration Fiber Optics: Highly susceptible to weather conditions (e.g., wind, hail), resulting in frequent false alarms.

Video Surveillance: Weather-dependent and lacks proactive alerting; requires manual monitoring and interpretation.

Outdated "Three-Layer Defense": Fails to meet modern airside security management requirements.

These limitations underscore the necessity for upgraded, intelligent, and multi-technology-integrated perimeter security systems.

Integrated Radar Security System
This system combines radar, video surveillance, audio alarms, and lighting to detect, track, and alert suspicious intrusions. Radar proactively identifies potential threats and automatically guides cameras to track targets, enabling security personnel to respond precisely and efficiently. By merging radar’s active detection capabilities with video visibility, the system significantly improves detection rates and operational practicality in complex environments.

Key Features:

All-Weather Operation: Functions reliably in rain, snow, fog, dust, and smoke, providing 24/7 protection.

Proactive Detection: Emits electromagnetic waves 8 times per second to accurately track target position and distance, supplemented by real-time visual verification.

Multi-Layer Protection: Radar-triggered alerts integrate with video recording and central control systems for comprehensive monitoring.

High Accuracy: AI algorithms filter false alarms (e.g., birds, small animals) while ensuring precise detection.

Open Architecture: Supports scalable networking and offers user-friendly alert management, statistics, and resolution tools.

Unique Advantages:

Multi-Target Tracking:

Simultaneously locks onto 10+ targets and displays their trajectories in real time on the management platform.

Capable of ultra-low-speed detection with precise distance and angle measurement.

Flexible Zone Customization:

Allows customized warning zones via client-drawn or field-mapped boundaries.

Triggers early alerts for approaching walkers or vehicles, linking cameras for tracking and evidence capture.

Smart Target Classification:

Accurately distinguishes humans, vehicles, and foliage while filtering out birds and animals to minimize false alarms.

Why Choose This System?

Enhanced Efficiency: Reduces reliance on manual patrols and monitoring.

Regulatory Compliance: Meets stringent airport security standards.

Scalability: Adapts to evolving threats and operational needs.

Applications:

Airport perimeters, tarmacs, and restricted zones

Critical infrastructure requiring high-precision intrusion detection
