Global Collaboration | Nanoradar Becomes Official Partner of Open-Source Flight Control Platform ArduPilot

2024-01-05

Abstract

Recently, Nanoradar officially became a partner of the globally renowned open-source flight control platform ArduPilot. The collaboration ensures seamless compatibility and integration, providing end-to-end support from sensing to flight control. Customers can now enjoy plug-and-play functionality, further driving innovation in drone applications worldwide.

As one of the most well-known open-source drone communities, ArduPilot was established in 2009 and has attracted over 300 global developers from more than 20 countries, along with 150+ partners across the drone industry chain. Its open-source flight control software is widely used in various drone systems. This partnership signifies Nanoradar’s deep integration into the full ecosystem of drone equipment development and application, marking a milestone of great significance.

Seamless Integration, Plug-and-Play

Seamless Integration: Serial communication enables flexible and seamless connectivity with open-source flight control systems. Customers using ArduPilot can directly utilize Nanoradar’s millimeter-wave radar products without additional integration efforts, enabling functionalities such as autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance. This also resolves potential compatibility issues with older product versions after platform software upgrades.

Plug-and-Play: The perfect compatibility of our products with the ArduPilot platform offers users unparalleled convenience, allowing them to complete device integration quickly and proceed to functional validation and application development.

End-to-End Support: We will continue to support the ArduPilot platform, providing users with a one-stop intelligent solution from perception to control, ensuring comprehensive service coverage from sensing to flight control.

Comprehensive Product Range, Multiple Choices
To address diverse application scenarios such as altitude holding and obstacle avoidance for drones, Nanoradar has launched a series of millimeter-wave radar products, including:

NRA15 100m altimeter radar

NRA24 200m altimeter radar

MR72 77GHz obstacle avoidance radar

MR82 80GHz obstacle avoidance radar

These products meet varied customer needs and provide ample options for different applications.

Nanoradar’s 1+2 UAV Assisted Flight Solution
During flight, drones require real-time perception of both frontal obstacles and altitude. Sensing obstacles enables the drone to autonomously avoid them, facilitating scene modeling and path planning. Altitude sensing ensures the drone operates within safe airspace and maintains a required fixed height above ground, particularly in applications like agricultural spraying.

To address these needs, Nanoradar introduces the 1+2 UAV Assisted Flight Solution:

One NRA24 altimeter radar installed at the bottom of the drone achieves precise altitude holding up to 200m.

Two MR82 obstacle avoidance radars installed on the front-left and front-right of the drone detect obstacles and enable terrain sensing.

By working collaboratively, these radars ensure accurate terrain prediction and altitude control during forward and backward flight, safeguarding drone operations.

Future Outlook
As a key supplier of millimeter-wave radar components, Nanoradar will continue strengthening technical exchanges and product integration with ArduPilot to achieve seamless CAN bus communication. In the future, Nanoradar’s millimeter-wave radar products will be more widely adopted within the ArduPilot ecosystem, empowering users worldwide to achieve autonomous and safe drone operations more efficiently.
